I awoke to the screeching of vultures fighting over their latest kill. My head hurt like crazy from all the noise. Why do my arms and hands feel wet? I winced at the sunlight as i tried to bring my eyes into focus. Streams of red seemed to flow down my arms and onto my hands like a river. I let out a horrendous scream. What have I done? I glanced around looking for the damage I had wrecked but all I saw was a flock of vultures around what seemed like their latest kill. Then the stench seemed to assail my nostrils. I faintly remembered hearing my name carried on the wind and an arrow almost killing me.
That was the first time my inner beast had ever spoken out to me. Was my magic evolving? The foul stench was growing as I heard what sounded like paper being ripped in half. I slowly got up to investigate. As I got close to the area that the vultures were surrounding I got an sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. There in the middle of the circle was what was left od the intruder from the previous night. My mind began to spin and red started to flash across my eyes. I could hear the anguished cries of terror as if someone was tearing out ones soul. My eyes cleared from the realization that what killed this man was more barbaric than I could imagine. It looked as if his soul had been stripped from his bone.
Maybe I am more evil than I thought? I searched the area for the crossbow he had used and found it lying under a bush about 5 feet away. His pack I found in a nearby grove contained nothing by which I could identify him. The only thing it contain was a small sack of gold that were marked with the symbols of the star and moon. A symbol that could have only come from one place...The Mages forest, why would they hunt one of their own? I rushed back to my small camp and gathered up my things. Legolas must have sense my urgency and was awaiting me patiently. The sooner I can get to Defy the sooner I would be safer from the bounty hunters.
